Mantova: the city of art

Mantova is one of the most important art cities in Italy. Although it is a small city with about 50.000 people, the beauty and tranquillity of its historical centre, make it as interesting as the other cities that having more tourists coming in.
MantovaMantova is just 32 km far from Peschiera del Garda and extends itself on a peninsula between Lake Superiore, Lake Mezzo and Lake Inferiore, which are formed by the Mincio river, an outflowing stream of Lake Garda. Cultural-art is its main feature.

Since 1997 Mantova welcomes the “Festiva letteratura” (literature festival), an innovative cultural event based on the meetings which take place between public and writers.

MantovaPalazzo Ducale (ducal palace), made up by many buildings built between the XIII and the XVIII century, which partially overlook the vast piazza Sordello (sordello square) including gardens and inside squares. Inside there is an important artistic heritage. Even the medieval complex of piazza delle Erbe is very important, connecting the romanesque Rotonda di San Lorenzo, the Palazzo della Ragione, next to the Torre dell'Orologio and Palazzo del Podestà; the Duomo, reconstructed in the XVI century, with XIII century façades;

MantovaAndrea Mantegna’s home (1476); Palazzo Te (1525-1535), situated beyond the third wall line; the Museo civico (civic museum), including Egyptian art, modern and numismatic sections; Palazzo d'Arco, neoclassical (1782-1784), with precious furnished rooms; the scientific baroque theatre or accademic, also known as the "Bibiena”.
